Fall Classic Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
