The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
