Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.
